Behavioural Intervention Preparation Checklist

This 10-step checklist offers a structured way to design, implement, and evaluate impactful behaviour change interventions. Start by defining your goal, ensuring clarity and alignment with sustainable outcomes. Then, understand your target audience through research into their needs, motivations, and barriers to change. From there, identify key behaviours that are actionable and impactful, and use behavioural models like COM-B to analyse the factors driving these behaviours.
Design tailored, evidence-based interventions that address barriers and leverage motivators. Engage stakeholders like communities, organizations, and policymakers to ensure support and resources. Pilot the intervention on a small scale to test its effectiveness and refine your approach. Once optimised, scale and implement the intervention broadly, ensuring accessibility and adaptability.
Use measurable indicators to monitor progress and assess behaviour changes over time. Finally, evaluate and adapt the intervention by analysing outcomes, learning from successes and challenges, and refining it for broader application. This checklist combines research, collaboration, and continuous improvement, making it a practical tool for driving sustainable behaviour change while addressing the complexities of human behaviour.
